'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog'

Born in 1986 in Roanne, Clemence de la Tour du Pin is a French conceptual artist currently living and working in Berlin.

With a childhood spent in the shadow of her aristocratic heritage, it seems natural that du Pin's artistic practice has steered away from the restraints of rule and ritual. Her dissatisfaction at such routines has seen her work develop into a type of survival mechanism that constantly evades the monotony of everyday life.

She is always sharply focussed on the present, eager in waiting for the surprise encounter, and it is through her experience that she discovers the stimulus for her practice. It seems that even the most mundane subject can be transformed and re-evaluted, as she offers her eyes to the viewer for a brief moment - encouraging them to take on her resourceful perspective.

This is well and truly evident within her abundance of drawings, which can be seen as recordings of her daily meander. They present a fragmented view into a variety of situations, whereby scribbled notes and staccato lines give glimpses of a personal narrative. The viewer is almost always pushed and pulled to reconstruct but a complete linear story is rarely du Pin's aim.

In some ways she acts as a kind of director, organising collected scraps and appropriating them through hand and body. Whether it be image, text or object, the act of editing and re-presenting casts a collective importance over the material she selects. We are encouraged to leaf through her work like the pages of a diary, shuffling through sheets of consciousness where the line between something and nothing appear confused. Reality becomes theatrical, authority becomes trivial - We are but lazy dogs enticed to chase.

Kunst(shot) is back at s.k.Robinson for its second edition. Moving on the strong vibrations given by our first event, we are proud to present ACUITY : a selection of five international artists showing works dealing with emotional states. Following the same scheme as the first event, video and sound performances will be given by the artist Kasper Vang. Photography, sculpture and drawing will be articulated in the main room, defining a shape of the invisible mechanics of the emotional system.

Seeking a brief and precise glance at selected art works, Kunst(shot) will present a monthly selection of emerging contemporary international artists in the new Sir Ken Robinson space, inviting them to creatively interact within an informal environment. This month the starting point is a sound performance by the French multi media artist Benjamin Laurent Arman, relating to the connotations of “SHOT!” - being fast and efficient. A body of selected drawing, video and sculpture works from a variety of international artists will also be curated around the sound performance. Our main intent is to create a relaxed recreation room in which artists are challenged and visitors able to communicate around the presented works.The first exhibition will open on a series of single-day-events, organised every first Thursday of the month.

Outland consists of seven artists working in a variety of media, and it has come together to produce specially commissioned pieces united by the concept of the ‘Beyond’. Each artist began by reflecting on a brief quotation from Gilles Deleuze concerning the relation between the construction of philosophical concepts and aesthetic creation. Deleuze’s statement served the group as an engine for individual inspiration, but with an eye toward opening the artistic process and encouraging further collaboration between members of the collective. Pieces showed include works on paper, as well as sound, light, and video installations.

The seven artists conceptualized their personal notion of the ‘Beyond’ and the group eventually came to a consensus regarding the concept’s meaning for the collective, and for this particular project: ‘To deterritorializate yourself’. As their manifesto states, this phrase encapsulates the creative approach of the Outland collective. It seems moreover appropriate for a group that is composed of artists from across the globe, and who find themselves working in a city whose territory is defined by some of the most prominent historical scars of the 20th century.

Berlin is a conduit for artistic ‘nomads’ or cultural migrants, and Stefania Angelini’s new space provides a fitting temporary shelter for this collective and the philosophical aesthetic milieu in which it operates.The physical space consists of two floors that will showcase exhibitions of visual as well as performance art, experimental music and screenings.
